Programmed Death-1 (PD-1) Proteins

Background

Programmed cell death protein 1, commonly referred to as PD-1 or CD279, plays a crucial role in modulating the immune system's response to the body's own cells. It achieves this by dampening the immune response and fostering self-tolerance, primarily through the inhibition of T cell inflammatory activity. This protein is present on the surface of certain cells and is instrumental in maintaining immune homeostasis.
