Despite the fact that mevalonate kinase is not the rate-limiting enzyme in isoprenoid biosynthesis, its activity is subject to feedback regulation by the branch-point intermediates geranyldiphosphate, farnesyldiphosphate and geranylgeranyldiphosphate.
