Peptidylarginine deiminases (PADs) are a group of enzymes that catalyze post-translational modifications of proteins by converting arginine residues into citrullines. PAD2 can be found in many tissues and organs, including brain, spinal cord, spleen , pancreas, skeletal muscles, secretory glands, and immune cells. By citrullinating proteins, PAD2 regulates a number of cellular processes such as gene transcription, antigen generation, extracellular trap formation (also termed ETosis), and pyroptosis.
